Shop base malts and brewing grains for homebrewing from leading American, British, German, Belgian, and Canadian maltsters. Base malt typically makes up the majority of an all-grain beer recipe, providing the fermentable sugars needed for brewing while establishing the beer's foundation of malt flavor, aroma, body, and color.
Choosing the right base malt can make a significant difference in the finished beer. American 2-Row provides a clean, versatile malt foundation that works well across countless beer styles. Pilsner Malt is lighter in color with a delicate, slightly sweet malt character ideal for crisp lagers, Belgian ales, and other pale beers. Pale Ale Malt brings additional bread and malt richness, while Vienna and Munich malts provide progressively deeper bread, toast, biscuit, and rich malt flavors.
Base malts can also be selected for more specific brewing goals. Wheat Malt adds soft wheat flavor, body, and excellent foam potential, while 6-Row Malt provides higher enzymatic power that can be useful when brewing with larger amounts of adjunct grains. Specialty base malts and heirloom barley varieties can provide even more distinctive malt character.
Our selection includes brewing malts from respected maltsters such as Great Western Malting, Weyermann, Durstmalz, BESTMALZ, Castle Malting, Canada Malting, Briess, and other quality producers.
Whether you're brewing an American IPA, Pale Ale, Pilsner, Helles, Kölsch, Belgian Ale, Wheat Beer, Vienna Lager, Märzen, Bock, Stout, or experimenting with your own recipe, choosing the right base malt gives you the foundation to build the beer you want.
Base malts aren't just for brewing. Malted barley, wheat, and other brewing grains can also add distinctive flavor, aroma, texture, and color to homemade bread and baked goods.
Finely crushed base malt can be incorporated in small amounts alongside regular flour or whole grains to introduce flavors ranging from fresh grain and bread to biscuit, honey, toast, and rich malt. Lighter Pilsner and 2-Row malts provide a more delicate grain character, while Vienna and Munich malts can bring progressively richer toasted and bread-crust flavors.
Grains will be milled and then packaged separately. If you prefer them to be unmilled, or packaged together, please notify us by leaving a note at checkout.
