Sweet, Herbal, Floral, Grass
Aroma, Flavor and Characteristics: Complex, but mild and approachable. A mixture of sweet, earthy, and herbal with vivid impressions of new-mown hay, sweet spices, and dried flowers. Its many o shoots and daughters show some of these same qualities, but none have the same range and balance as Mittelfrüh.
Brewing Application: In its natural form, Hersbrucker hops are used specifically to add the distinctively German aroma to Lagers, Pilsners, Bocks, and other traditional European styles. Expect a spicy, floral aroma with rich fruity overtones when you add these hops to your boil. Aroma. Although it can be and is used throughout the boil, it is most prized for its fine, elegant aroma and flavor contribution. Mittelfrüh has been one of Europe’s most widely esteemed varieties for centuries and is practically synonymous with continental lagers (particularly Bavarian styles) and many types of German and Belgian ales.
